The way Drag x Drive has you push your wheelchair across the basketball courts and the surrounding roller derby-like arena is surprisingly intuitive. The further you push forward in one swipe with both hands, the faster you'll go. Shorter adjustments with either wheel then allow you to tweak your angle, with longer ones, naturally, having you whip right the way around.

My basketball career ends with me impressed at the hardware that's gone into the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, but disappointed by Drag x Drive.

Nintendo Most of the higher-level tricks are fun, but not exactly practical in the game itself. The only advanced movement that seemed worth striving for was the dunk, in which I need to speed toward the ramp beside the enemy net, push and pull my Joy-Cons in alternating directions as I hit the lip, and shoot the ball as I’m soaring past the net.

Lift the other wheel right after, and you'll do a bunny hop, giving you extra height for shots towards the basketball net from a distance. Passing the ball, meanwhile, is oddly just a button press (both the L+R bumpers at once), while actually making a shot requires you to lift one arm up, flicking the ball to throw.

But the finished product does feel a little underbaked. The core experience – the 3v3 online matches – is decently tense and end-to-end, and I can see myself dipping in from time to time for a quick game.

So, a couple of major questions arise. Is Drag x Drive just a glorified tech demo? Or is it a fully-fledged Nintendo Switch 2 sports title with enough depth to hold down a loyal playerbase? I spent hours playing this unorthodox new release to find out.

The Nintendo Switch, in many ways, is the ultimate handheld gaming device. Everything Nintendo has released since the Gameboy has culminated here. That makes it even Drag x Drive game more exciting when they commit some serious resources to making the mobile aspect as good as it can be. For instance, adding an OLED screen. The Nintendo Switch OLED is an obvious upgrade that will be most exciting for people who like to game on the go.

Trickier plays, while cool to witness and to pull off, often don't feel worth it. 2v2 is possible, but only when you're in a lobby without enough players for a full game – bots only fill in slots if players disconnect.

Restrito a uma arena muito cinzenta e nenhumas apelo visual, Drag x Drive não possui este charme ou sequer a vigor que vai deixar a pensar no game quando pousas este comando.

I admit that a fierce competitive scene could form around the game with strategies and techniques I simply wasn’t able to discover during my time, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The game was designed to take advantage of the Joy-Con 2's mouse mode, with players using motion controls to mimic using a wheelchair to move.

Oh, and one final note on gameplay – I often found myself in 2v2 matches when playing online via Global Jam

I sprinted as fast as I could, sure someone was behind me, but also feeling the eyes of everyone in the stands watching me. In reality, there were probably only a dozen or two parents there, but it felt like the most pressure in the world to have the ball with no one to stop me.
